Books to Read in 2018

I have a lot of books to read. Like, a lot. Several bookcases worth. Yeah. A lot. BUT through sheer force of will and because everyone loves a good list, I’ve narrowed down my top ten books that I want to read in 2018.

Now, most of these were published before this year, and some have yet to come out, so there’s a nice mixed bag for everyone to sink their teeth into…

The Book Thief by Markus Zusak

This one keeps looking at me from the bookshelf. Giving me the eye. Taunting me with it’s beautiful, macabre cover and its promise of weird, lyrical devastation. I have seen so many people love this book and be crushed by it. I need this in my brain soon.

Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen

Studied in Bath for three years and still haven’t read an Austen novel. I’d like to make a serious dent in my classics shelf this year, and this seems like a good place to start.

I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings by Maya Angelou

I was supposed to read this for university, but I ended up not taking this class this was on the reading list for. But it is still a book that I really want to read to help broaden my reading in every sense.

Great Expectations by Charles Dickens

Yes, I know. Have I been living under a rock my whole life? I haven’t read any Dickens either. And I doubt watching Muppets Christmas Carol every year counts. I’m hoping to rectify that this year. If only so I can stop feeling guilty about not reading it…

Circe by Madeline Miller

From the classic to the unpublished, Circe isn’t out until April, but I am desperate to get my hands on it. After reading and simply adoring The Song of Achilles in 2017, this was an instant must-have when I found out about its release. So excited!

The Fair Fight by Anna Freeman

I’ve had this beauty on my shelves for a few years. One of the lecturers at my university, Freeman gave a talk about writing the book and getting published, and signed my copy for me. I would love to be able to get to this one at some point this year. It feels like it might be a good spring or autumn read.

Finding Camlann by Sean Pidgeon

Most people have probably never heard of this one – but most people probably aren’t as in love with all things Arthurian as I am either. A literary novel about the search for the battlegrounds of Arthur’s last stand, I was super excited to get this several years ago but just never got around to it. This year will be the year!

Wild Beauty by Anna-Marie McLemore

I’ve seen this one getting great reviews on Instagram and Goodreads so I’m really excited to pick it up. LGBT witches who look after a magical garden? Sounds fabulous!

The Republic of Thieves by Scott Lynch

The third book in the Gentleman Bastards Sequence, I can’t not read this. Especially with the possibility of book four being out later this year too…

Strange the Dreamer by Laini Taylor

So many people adore this book and I am so excited to get to it. With one of the most beautiful covers of 2017, it is just sitting on my shelf, calling to me, begging to be read. Soon, my pretty. Very soon.

There are so many other books I could add to this list, but these are definitely the priorities.
